The story of The Lumber Exchange is not only about building a space, but about helping build the future of our region. That is why we are proud to announce the Sawyer County/Lac Courte Oreilles Economic Development Corporation (SCLCOEDC) as our newest First Light Partner.

SCLCOEDC has long been a driving force for economic growth, opportunity, and connection across Sawyer County and the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation. Their work spans from helping new businesses get off the ground with plans and funding, to supporting established organizations as they grow, to addressing some of our region’s most pressing needs in workforce and housing. Their mission is clear: strengthen the economic fabric of our community so that both businesses and families can thrive.

At its heart, SCLCOEDC is about creating the conditions for growth. They spark new businesses into being, help existing ones find strength for the long road ahead, and invest in the people who make up our local workforce. Their work reaches into every corner of community life, from new jobs and training opportunities to housing and quality of place. And because it is done in partnership with local leaders and neighbors, the progress they create is designed to last.

When The Lumber Exchange opens its doors in 2026, SCLCOEDC will establish a permanent presence in the building. This downtown footprint will make it easier than ever for entrepreneurs, business owners, and community members to connect directly with the resources and guidance SCLCOEDC provides. Looking ahead, they will also leverage the space to hold events and workshops, and launch and support new business incubator programs, ensuring The Lumber Exchange becomes a hub where fresh ideas and enterprises can take root.

The alignment is clear. The Lumber Exchange is being built to bring people together: entrepreneurs, nonprofits, small business owners, and community leaders. It is a place where big ideas can grow in the heart of Hayward. SCLCOEDC’s leadership and vision make them an essential partner in shaping this environment from the very beginning.

As a First Light Partner, SCLCOEDC is helping lay the foundation for the culture and impact of The Lumber Exchange. Their leadership underscores something we believe deeply: lasting progress happens when local vision is matched with long-term investment.

Together, we are building more than a building. We are shaping a stronger, more connected future for the Northwoods.

This is only the beginning.

"We are proud to welcome SCLCOEDC as a First Light Partner. Together we are building a place where ideas grow, opportunities expand, and the future of our region shines brighter."

Why Coworking Works

Work no longer fits neatly into one box. Neither does life. At the corner of Main and 63, both are coming together. The Lumber Exchange is being built for that harmony.

First Light

Some partnerships begin after the doors open. Others take root long before. At the corner of Main and 63, The Lumber Exchange is welcoming CAMBA as our first First Light Partner. Together, we are shaping a space built for connection, community, and the trails that lead us here.

Breaking Ground

The morning was quiet. The corner, familiar. But as the first shovels turned the earth, something shifted. A new chapter began. One rooted in history, shaped by community, and ready to rise.
